Can it be done? Is it possible to build a 1700 sqft, healthy, eco-friendly, LEED certified home for less than the average selling price of comparable site built home in the Seattle Metro area. Well, we're about to see!
*Pre-downturn real estate prices for such a home hovered around $400K+; a conservative estimate.
I'm obsessed with prefab, an addict for beautiful design and a champion for eco-living. My husband and I are newly married and in the market for our first home; disappointed by en-masse master planned, cookie cutter homes available in our budget we decided to build an eco-prefab for $300K or less, including the land. Can it be done you ask? Well that's the point of the site. To document the process and share the bits & bobs that will make up our new home. We are aiming for a minimum of LEED Gold certification but LEED Platinum would be a dream come true. And, through the process I will share all of the information we find to help others, especially those on a budget to do the same.
Not to be too cheesy, but my "Alter-Ego" is driven to make the world a better place in my own little way. I recycle like mad and I'm proud to be an eco-conscious citizen! I'm not over-the-top crazy with it but I think my approach makes going green more attractive. Education is the best approach and before you know it "green" technology doesn't exist it's just the norm.
